Show Intro:
Government: Friend or Foe?
Mike Bloomberg recently went through one of the most difficult public repudiations in his tenure as Mayor. Thousands of his constituents couldn’t get out of their houses, off their block or to their jobs because the city did such a lousy job plowing the snow. How could this happen when snow removal is the first lesson in Government 101 and the Bloomberg administration is one of the best.
The Federal government is poised for an historic battle between the Democrats and Republicans to see who can convince the country that they are more fiscally resposnsible.
State and Local governments are readying to dismantlle public unions, cut services and above all not raise taxes. The elected officials are going to be stand tough, talk straight and get rid of all the waste and corruption.
This is all being done because the economy isn’t moving, the constitution is being violated, public employees have been too greedy and the recent election was a mandate to return the government to the people.
I didn’t notice that anyone had taken it away. Does this mean that we are going to try to literally go back to the 18th century thinking of people who rode horses, had a short life expectancy, used bleeding as a medical technique, promoted slavery and lived exculively on the east coast?
Notes:
First we’ll talk about emergency management, what the public expects and what the reality is.
We should also address the reality of the stimulus’ effect on the present economy …what people think and what’s really happening.
And then maybe we introduce the “make your own budget” idea for the next show.
